BETTER Life Summer School
Ecosystem Services, Tourism, Community Engagement, and Conservation Strategies in National Park
8th to 14th September 2024
The BETTER Life Summer School for Early Career Researchers, held in the Czech Republic from September 8-14, 2024, brought together over 60 participants from seven countries for an intensive week focused on socially engaged research (SER). Hosted across four venues, the program combined theoretical learning with hands-on fieldwork, equipping participants with the tools to use scientific research as a driver for positive societal impact. The event underscored how SER can foster community development and support local businesses by addressing real-world social and environmental issues.
The week began at the Czech University of Life Sciences (CZU) in Prague, where participants engaged in interactive lectures and roundtable discussions on SER principles. This was followed by three-day excursions to national parks, allowing participants to apply these principles to current environmental challenges. The program wrapped up in Kostelec nad Černými Lesy with participants presenting their findings, exchanging insights, and celebrating their achievements in a farewell gathering, marking the successful conclusion of this transformative program.
